Sarah Lupberger is an environmental scientist with over 15 years of experience working with local champions to transform our food and forestry systems to be more equitable and to promote cultural and biological diversity. She is from the United States but has worked on initiatives around the world, including living and working in Peru for 8 years. Her current work at the Rainforest Alliance (RA) promotes locally-led and nature-based solutions to climate change through agroforestry, regenerative agriculture, and community forestry. Sarah has previously worked on promoting and developing landscape-scale initiatives to create equitable rural economies that protect nature with RA and Verra. She also has experience working with advocates to improve environmental policymaking through her work at the World Resources Institute (US), Derecho Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Peru), and the Ministry of Environment of Peru. Sarah holds a MESc from the Yale School of the Environment. She was awarded a Fulbright Public Policy Fellowship and a Switzer Environmental Leadership Fellowship. Outside of work, Sarah practices botanical watercolor illustration, plays classical flute, and loves experimenting with how to turn local and foraged produce into vegan dishes. She speaks both English and Spanish fluently and is working on her Portuguese.
